Meat is an incredibly high resource food. Growing animal food crops is devastating the rainforest. Food crops which would be used to directly feed humans. The water used for the animals could also be going directly to humans. The land use to keep and feed animals could be used for humans to live on, grow food crops on, or could be returned to its natural state, in the case of the rainforest. Reducing one's meat consumption is a good first step in reportioning land use.

well, kind of yes... i get a local organic veg box - most of the food is grown within 15 miles of where i live - this is low resource food, yes? :-)
